Many people have the tendency to take a job they do not
exactly want, but they stick with it just for the money they can earn from it.
When this happens, these individuals can become resentful in their workplace.
They would also feel like the amount of money they receive is just not enough
for all the responsibilities they have in their work. This could even lead to
switching jobs or changing careers. So
why does this happen and how can you avoid being in such a miserable situation?
To be satisfied is a very difficult task. We all change over
time, and even our preferences may change through time and influence of other
people or experiences. With that said, you also cannot expect that you may
easily find a job or career that you will fall in love with and be dedicated to
at once. This is actually a bigger challenge for employers as they are the ones
who will suffer from an unhappy employee. So are there things that an employer
could do to try to motivate his staff?
Below are some of the important considerations that should
be made by the management to help their people feel comfortable and satisfied
with their jobs.
·
When employees are being controlled by the
management, the end result is likely to be bad. It is important for the
management to recognize what their people are capable of doing. On the part of
the employees, they have to be able to think and decide on their own. It is a
must also that they be given the freedom to rationalize whatever they are doing
and just let them figure out if everything or nothing makes sense.
·
A job well done deserves a reward. By rewards we
don’t necessarily mean material things, though it would be ideal. People get
motivated even by a simple word of affirmation. Of course, cash rewards,
promotions and other forms of gifts are the most desirable forms of rewards
that could motivate an employee even more to work even harder.
·
There should be room for error in a workplace.
This means that failures and mistakes of employees should be accepted by the
management because we are all just humans. It is actually the responsibility of
the management to figure out how to address such mistakes and what things need
to be done to prevent them from happening again in the future.
·
Job description is another common issue in a
workplace and could even cause employees to consider changing careers. This simply means that the duties and
responsibilities assigned to an employee must be in line with what he or she
applied for in the first place. Making an employee overwork can definitely lead
to his or her dissatisfaction at work.
