Never Settle for Mediocrity

Have you ever thought about changing careers? Well, most of us have considered changing careers at one point in our lives. Some change their careers because they are forced to do so or simply because their careers can’t provide them with sufficient job opportunities. Others expect that this change will be able to give them unlimited job options, be a perfect match for their new skills or get them out of their misery by earning more money. Whatever your reasons are, you have every right to make this important change but you have to give it a considerable amount of time to plan or else you’ll regret this decision for the rest of your life.

There are many things to consider before you can make an informed decision about this change such as your job prospects, financial implications, and the amount of time you need to learn newer skills, as well as finding an organization where you can blend in. And you know for a fact that more issues will arise as you go through the change. Do you even know what to do when these issues slap you in the face?

If you are ready for a career change, the first thing that you need to know is figure out the amount of change that you want to make. Will you work for the same employer but handle a different job or a different company with a different job?  Once you have figured this out, you will be able to focus on finding your career options already.

Now let us find the perfect career for you based on these 3 factors.

1. Identify your skills and interests- for some; this may take time because some of us aren’t confident enough to know what skills we possess. We can only be happy doing something when our skills match our job description. You can never say that you love your job unless you tried it.

2. Find the industry that is a perfect match for your skills -so you will know how they can be transferred into your new role. If possible ask some people who work in the same field about the skills that they took with them when they started working.

3. Make sure that you are ready – think about the new skills that you need to learn in order to qualify you for the job. If you fall short in some of these skills, you might need to undergo proper training before you can even make a change. You can enroll in short courses and train on weekends while you are still on your current job.

Changing careers can open new doors full of exciting career opportunities that may change your entire life, but it is not an overnight decision.
