Five Signs That You Are Ready To Work Abroad

Most of us want to work abroad not just for the money but also for the adventure, as well as gaining lots of experience and coming back to your home country with much better job opportunities than when you left. But have you asked yourself if you are ready for this move and if you possess the right skills to land you a well-deserved job when you get there? Of course you wouldn’t want to be hopping from one job to another if your original plan is just to work and go home when your contract expires.

You need to be prepared in this aspect of your life, here are the 5 signs indicating that you are ready to work abroad now:

1.       You can speak the universal language – it is very important that you can write, read, speak and comprehend English words because this language is going to be used 100% unless they require you to speak in German as part of the pre-requisite before you can go to Germany or any other language that is equivalent. Some English speaking countries even require applicants to pass the TOEFL exam before they are granted a visa.

2.       You are independent - this means that you can handle being away from home and getting homesick should not be a hindrance to your job performance. Most of us experience being homesick but learning to handle it in a mature way such simply means that you are fully ready for this responsibility.

3.       You are an adventurer – it means that you are ready wherever life puts you. You enjoy meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, adapting to changes, and overcoming challenges. You understand that you will not get to experience these if you stay in your home country and you welcome new ideas and are not afraid to innovate.

4.       You want it – if you proactively considered working abroad, then you are definitely ready. Some are even afraid to entertain the thought of leaving their loved ones and need convincing without a positive assurance; while here you are, offering your service.

5.       You want to learn – if your heart and mind say that you are ready to learn new things despite all the challenges it could bring; then start packing your stuff because you are on the way to self-discovery and growth.

Working abroad is not for everyone because some of us don’t qualify to take this journey mentally and emotionally. It takes guts and a whole lot of courage to even consider the possibility of living out of your comfort zone. But what some people don’t understand is that working abroad opens new doors for better career opportunities in the future. Now, are you ready?
